Walled Lake is a city in Oakland County in Michigan. It shares its name with the Walled Lake. it is a suburb on the western side of Metro Detroit, it is about 20 miles northwest of Detroit.
The town's name was said to have come from Walter Hewitt in 1825. Hewitt was a first Euro-American settler who noticed the stone wall along the lake's western bank. Walled Lake was first inhabited by the Ojibwa and Potowatamie about 1830. These people had relocated from an area that is known today as Southfield.
