Southfield is a city in Oakland County in Michigan. As a northern suburb of Metro Detroit, it shares parts of its southern border with Detroit.
The first settlers came from Birmingham and Royal Oak as well as from the states of New York and Vermont. In 1823, the area was settled by John Daniels. The Heth, Stephens, Harmon, McClelland, and Thompson families were the founders of the city.
Southfield is considered to be the commercial and business center for the Metro Detro area. Several international corporations all have their headquarters in Southfield. It is also considered as the broadcast media center for the Detroit area. The city serves as the location of the CBS Radio's Detroit studios.
