The small community of Morrison was settled in the 1860's, and officially became a town in 1906. Many of the historic building still stand and can be seen today. Don't let the town's small population of 430 people fool you, there are many things to do and see just southwest of Denver.
Originally the town was settled as a quarry for a stone mason. While they were collecting the red stones, many fossils and footprints were found. You can still see the dig sites and many of their findings at Dinosaur Ridge and at the Morrison Natural History Museum.
Red Rocks Amphitheater is built into this red stone of the foothills. Now we are able to enjoy the world's only perfectly acoustic natural amphitheater to see all types of concerts and shows. If you would like to explore the 'red rocks' even more, visit one of the many parks or hiking trails near by.
