Commerce City is an area with a long history of trade, agriculture, and business. The people that made it all happen had their homes and communities. In the 1850's people were coming west seeking gold on the Overland Route. Many of them came in covered wagons. With the South Platte river and the railroad, this was the obvious place for a trading place, ranch, and hotel - or so thought John 'Colonel Jack' Henderson in 1859. This is now the site of the Adams County Fair Grounds.
Today, Commerce City continues to mix residential, industrial, and recreational areas. The city is home of Dick's Sporting Goods Park, a large soccer complex is home to the Colorado Rapids. There are many parks to explore near by. With Commerce City located just north of Downtown Denver you are never far from theaters, museums, shopping, and amazing restaurants.
